How to create, edit, add or delete a clause?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Feature restricted to administrators.

Create a Clause

From Dynamic Components

  • Go to Dynamic Components on the left

  • Click on Clauses

  • Select + New Clause (an editor opens)

By converting existing text in a contract template

  • Select the text to convert into a clause

  • Click Create a clause (an editor opens)

From the contract template editor using the + button

  • Hover over the editor and click +

  • Select Clause and click Insert a clause

  • Select Create a new clause (an editor opens)

Once in the clause editor

  • Name it, add a description if needed

  • Edit and format the clause

  • Click Create Clause

Add an existing clause

  • In the editor, click +

  • Select Clause

  • Choose an existing clause, which will be inserted automatically

Replace a Clause

  • Click the gear icon on the clause

  • Click replace

  • Select a new clause from the dropdown menu to replace the existing one

Edit a clause

Modifying a clause has the following effects:

  • The clause will be updated in all contract types and future contracts where it is used.

  • It will not be modified in ongoing or already signed contracts.

Changing the font applied to the template does not apply to clauses. The clause font remains the one set during its creation or last edit.

From a contract type

If the clause is already inserted

  • Click the gear icon, then the pencil icon

  • Modify the clause and click Edit Clause

From dynamic components

  • Go to Dynamic Components, Clauses tab

  • Select a clause

  • Modify its name, description, and content

  • Click Edit Clause

Manage clause numbering

By default, clause numbering starts at 1. To have the clause numbering follow the contract type numbering, use Title Lists in the editor and start the clause content at the second level of the list.

This allows for continuous numbering between the template and the inserted clauses.

Best practices

Tips for optimal clause usage:

  • Prefer creating reusable clauses in Dynamic Components rather than duplicating the same text across multiple templates

Delete a clause

Deleting a clause from a template removes it from future contracts, but it remains in ongoing and signed contracts.

  • Click the gear icon

  • Click the trash icon to delete the clause
