Translate a smart field

How to manage translations of a smart field in multiple languages?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Feature available to administrators only.

Verify the template multilingual setup

Before translating a smart field, make sure your template is available in multiple languages.

Add a language

You can add a new language to a smart field at any time:

  • Go to Dynamic components > Smart fields

  • Open the relevant smart field

  • Click “Add a language”

  • Enter the field name and help text

  • Click Save

Add a language to a selector field

If the field is a single-choice selector or a multiple-choice selector, the options must be translated manually.

Translating the field name does not automatically translate the options.

Delete a translation

  • Click the “...” next to the language you want to remove.

  • Select “Delete translation.”

Understand elements shared across all translations

  • Field type: It is the same for all languages and cannot be changed individually.

  • Object linked to the field: Even though it can be edited from any language, changes apply to all translations.

Any modification made to these elements impacts every language.

Example: changing the related object in the English version will also update it in the other languages.

Understand how the field is displayed in a document

The display depends on the template language:

  • If the template is in French, the fields appear in French.

  • If the template is in English, the fields appear in English, with the French translation in parentheses (interface language).

Understand what users see

When your collaborators or partners view or fill out a document:

  • They see the fields in the language of the template.

  • This allows them to complete the document in a coherent and understandable language.

Example: If the template used is in English:

  • Fields are displayed in English.

  • The French translation appears in parentheses in:

    • The summary sheet

    • The entry form
