Translate a smart field

How to create and translate your custom fields into multiple languages?

Updated over 2 months ago

If your templates are available in several languages, you can also translate your custom fields so they adapt to each language version.

Manage a Multilingual Template

Before translating your fields, make sure your templates are properly configured in multiple languages.

Everything is explained in this article: Translate a template into multiple languages.

Add or Remove Languages

Add a Language

You can add a new language to a field at any time:

  • Go to the Dynamic Components tab

  • Open the custom field you want to translate.

  • Click “Add a language.”

Fill in :

  • The field name in the new language

  • The help text (optional) in this language

  • Click Save (bottom right) to confirm.

Remove a Language

  • Click the “...” next to the language you want to remove.

  • Select “Delete translation.”

What Remains Common Across All Translations

  • Field type: It is the same for all languages and cannot be changed individually.

  • Object linked to the field: Even though it can be edited from any language, changes apply to all translations.

Example: changing the object in the English version will also change it in the other languages.

Display of languages in documents

Once translations are added, they appear automatically depending on the language of the template used.

  • If the template is in French, the fields appear in French.

  • If the template is in English, the fields appear in English, with the French translation in parentheses (interface language).

Template in FRENCH

Fields are displayed in French by default (with English translation - interface language).

Template in ENGLISH

Fields are displayed in English.

Result for Users

When your collaborators or partners view or fill out a document:

  • They see the fields in the language of the template.

  • This allows them to complete the document in a coherent and understandable language.

Example: If the template used is in English:

  • Fields are displayed in English.

  • The French translation appears in parentheses in:

    • The summary sheet

    • The entry form
